Investigation into Miguel Uribe Turbay assassination

Overview

Following the death of Colombian senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay, his family has become embroiled in legal and political disputes. Initially, a trademark conflict emerged at the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio between the senator’s father, Miguel Uribe Londoño, and the senator’s widow, María Claudia Tarazona, regarding the rights to use the senator’s name for political and charitable purposes.

Simultaneously, tensions rose regarding the senator’s security and the potential involvement of various actors. Tarazona has sought investigations into the death of a suspected member of the Segunda Marquetalia, while Uribe Londoño accused President Gustavo Petro of complicity in removing the senator’s protections.

More recently, Tarazona has escalated allegations by accusing former representative Luis Alberto Albán, also known as ‘Marcos Calarcá’, of coordinating the assassination. Tarazona claims to possess digital evidence suggesting the hit was organized by a commando group with orders originating in Congress and funded by Venezuela. Albán and members of the Comunes Party have rejected these claims, labeling them ‘unfounded declarations’ and ‘slander’ while initiating legal action to defend their reputation.
