These departures follow significant sporting failures, including the Super Eagles missing the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons failing to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, ending their continuous participation since 1991.

In response to the unfolding crisis, the NFF Congress has summoned an emergency meeting in Abuja to discuss the stability, governance, and future of the federation. These developments may necessitate the appointment of a normalization committee to oversee the federation’s restructuring.
