Iran power grid reconstruction and energy management

Overview

Mohammad Elahdad, CEO of Tavanir, reported that Iran’s national power industry is working to reconstruct infrastructure following wartime incidents that damaged power plants with a combined capacity exceeding 4,000 megawatts. Elahdad noted that smart management strategies successfully reduced electricity demand by approximately 3 percent for the second consecutive year.

To support industrial activity while power plants and network lines undergo scheduled maintenance, Tavanir has lifted industrial electricity consumption limits during off-peak hours. Between 10:00 PM and 10:00 AM, industrial units may consume electricity beyond their contracted demand without penalties.

Looking toward long-term policy, Elahdad stated that under the Electricity Industry Development Obstacle Removal Law, industries must secure their own electricity or purchase it through energy exchange boards starting in 2026. Currently, only about 30 percent of this requirement has been met.
