Iranian political response to Hezbollah losses

Overview

Following the loss of the strategic Ali al-Tahir heights and tunnels in southern Lebanon to Israel, Iranian political figures and supporters of Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf have criticized Mojtaba Khamenei. Critics on social media have labeled the current political direction a “delusion of power” and a series of strategic miscalculations, particularly noting that the loss occurred after a unilateral ceasefire agreement was signed.

Other grievances raised by these figures include the failure to close the Strait of Hormuz and a surge in the US dollar exchange rate.

In response to the regional situation, Mojtaba Khamenei issued a message honoring the late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, describing him as a figure who elevated Lebanon’s importance. Khamenei stated that the leadership of the Resistance now rests with Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem and characterized the current period in Lebanon as “special and glorious days for Lebanon and all fighters of the Resistance.”
