Irish tokenised money‑market fund approvals
Overview
In late July 2026, Aviva Investors announced the launch of a tokenised share class of its US Dollar Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger. The Central Bank of Ireland approved the new digital twin, which retains the fund’s traditional risk profile and regulatory protections while using blockchain‑based custody and tokenisation technology provided by Komainu and Licuido.
This launch follows a strategic partnership with Ripple established earlier in the year. The Ireland‑domiciled UCITS money‑market fund uses on‑chain tokens to mirror a conventional book‑entry register, which is reconciled daily. While the tokens act as a digital twin to the existing fund, they are not freely transferable and are restricted to eligible investors using approved digital wallets. Underlying assets remain held by BNY Mellon.
A week later, Schroders received similar approval for its first tokenised share class, Schroders Onchain Active Returns (SOAR), which will operate on JP Morgan’s Kinexys multi‑chain platform. The approval also came from the Central Bank of Ireland and highlights the firm’s aim to improve liquidity, settlement speed and 24/7 treasury management through smart‑contract automation.
Both approvals demonstrate a growing regulatory comfort with blockchain‑based structures in conventional finance and signal an expanding trend of tokenising money‑market funds within the Irish jurisdiction.
