Isaac del Toro 2026 cycling season

Overview

Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro experienced a significant 2026 season, highlighted by strong performances in international championships and professional tours.

During the UCI Road World Championships in Montreal, Del Toro secured sixth place in the elite men’s individual time trial with a time of 46:31.96. He was scheduled to lead the Mexican team, including riders such as Eder Frayre and Ulises Castillo, in the subsequent 273.7-kilometer road race.

Del Toro concluded his season ranked third in the UCI world rankings, trailing only Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel. This ranking follows his historic performance in the 2026 Tour de France, where he became the first Mexican cyclist to reach the final podium, finishing third in the general classification and securing the white jersey as the best young rider. His season with UAE Team Emirates-XRG included 12 professional victories, notably at the UAE Tour, Tirreno-Adriatico, and the GP de Montreal.

Following the World Championships, Del Toro noted that knee discomfort affected his later performances, including a 28th-place finish at Il Lombardia. Looking ahead, experts suggest the announced route for the 2027 Tour de France, which emphasizes climbing and time trialing, provides opportunities for Del Toro to challenge for the yellow jersey.
