Israel military pursuit of October 7 attackers
Overview
Israeli military operations continue to target individuals involved in the October 7, 2023, attacks. Defense Minister Israel Katz reported that approximately 4,000 of the 6,000 militants who participated in the initial offensive have been killed, with orders issued to eliminate all remaining participants regardless of rank. To support these efforts, the Shin Bet established a specialized unit named Nili to locate and neutralize militants who entered Israeli territory during the original attack.
Subsequent military actions have resulted in the elimination of specific Hamas commanders. These include Maher Walid Omar al-Husseini, a commander of the Hamas Nukhba elite unit linked to the raid on the Re’im military base, and Momen Ahmad Salameh Ay, an affiliate of the Hamas Gaza Brigade involved in hostage-holding and attacks against Israeli forces and civilians.
