Israeli intelligence operations against Iran nuclear program

Overview

Former Mossad director Yossi Cohen has disclosed various intelligence operations aimed at disrupting Iran’s nuclear program. Cohen revealed that Israeli agents visited the heavily fortified Fordow nuclear facility “many times” to gather intelligence on its infrastructure and capabilities.

Beyond physical or remote surveillance, Cohen described psychological operations used to pressure Iranian nuclear scientists. This included sending flowers to their homes with messages indicating that the agency was aware of their identities and professional activities, a tactic intended to induce fear and encourage scientists to abandon their roles.

Cohen also commented on a June 2025 military conflict between Israel and Iran, in which U.S. forces utilized B-2 Spirit stealth bombers and bunker-buster munitions to strike Iranian nuclear sites, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Cohen described the U.S. bombing of the Fordow site as “the fulfillment of all my dreams.” While Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization characterized the damage from these strikes as “limited,” reports indicated that approximately 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium were at risk during the hostilities.
