Italian 5G infrastructure installation disputes

Disputes regarding 5G infrastructure installations have emerged across several Italian municipalities, involving legal challenges, administrative disagreements, and local protests.

In Martina Franca, the Tre Tornesi Committee is contesting municipal procedures concerning the re-examination of a 5G plant. The committee alleges that a technical report was completed before citizen observations could be considered, which they claim may violate the “right to defense.” While the infrastructure owner, INWIT, asserts there are no alternative sites, the committee has presented an independent study suggesting otherwise.

In Urgnano, the municipal council has faced criticism for accepting a 25-year concession from INWIT valued at 55,000 euros, a figure opposition members claim is significantly lower than the projected 150,000 euros based on current rates. Meanwhile, in Pesaro, residents of Borgo Santa Maria have launched protests and filed formal warnings to suspend the activation of a new radio base station. These residents allege a discrepancy between the approved location and the actual installation site, accusing the municipality of a “lack of transparency” regarding construction documentation.
