Italian anti-mafia asset seizures

Overview

Italian authorities have conducted significant asset seizures targeting individuals suspected of ties to organized crime clans.

In late September, the Salerno Court ordered the confiscation of approximately 5 million euros in assets from an entrepreneur in Mercato San Severino, suspected of being associated with the Camorra ‘Desiderio’ clan. In October, the Catanzaro Court ordered the seizure of approximately 4 million euros in assets in the Vibo Valentia region as part of the ‘Adelphi’ operation. This targeted a man accused of mafia association and transnational drug trafficking linked to the Mancuso clan, involving properties, agricultural land, and a nursery business.

On October 28, further operations expanded the scope of seizures. In Brindisi, the Lecce Court ordered the seizure of approximately 600,000 euros in assets belonging to Tobia Parisi, identified as a high-ranking member of the Sacra Corona Unita. The seized assets include a car dealership, a bar used for illegal betting, luxury real estate, and a villa in Torre Santa Susanna that was previously used to hide boss Daniele Vicientino while he was a fugitive.

Additionally, judicial measures in Calabria have impacted local administration. Flavio Stasi, the mayor of Corigliano-Rossano, was placed under house arrest following an investigation coordinated by the Catanzaro District Anti-Mafia Directorate into alleged electoral agreements involving illegal hiring practices. This investigation has resulted in 41 precautionary measures.
