Italian Basketball Federation disciplinary actions
Overview
The Italian Basketball Federation (FIP) has issued various disciplinary sanctions across multiple leagues following match rounds in late September and October 2026.
In late September, Nutribullet Treviso and Openjobmetis Varese were fined for collective and sporadic offenses directed at referees and specific members during the Serie A opening round.
By mid-October, the scope of disciplinary actions expanded. In Serie A, S. Bernardo Cantù was fined €1,200 for offenses against referees and the Lega Basket Serie A, while Longobardi Scafati received warnings regarding locker room facilities and equipment failures. In Serie A2, several clubs faced fines for fan misconduct, including Halley Campania Avellino, Victoria Libertas Pall. Pesaro, Gemini Mestre, Elachem Vigevano, and Flats Service Bologna. Additionally, the Serie A1 Women's league saw Broni 2022 fined for collective offenses by local fans against referees and opposing personnel.
Following the fourth round of the Serie A season on October 19, 2026, the FIP imposed significant new penalties. Longobardi Scafati was fined €50,000 for failing to comply with roster regulations, specifically failing to meet the minimum number of Italian-trained players required after switching to a ‘6+6’ formula. Despite the fine, the match result against Virtus Bologna stands because the scoring margin exceeded the 20-point threshold required for a technical forfeit.
Individual sanctions included a one-game suspension for BC Roma player Nico Mannion for directing an offensive expression toward a second referee following a loss against Venezia. Further sanctions for spectator misconduct included Napoli Basket being fined €1,200 for collective and sporadic insults and threats toward referees, and Bertram Tortona being fined €600 for similar offenses. Napoli Basket also received a warning regarding a malfunction of mandatory equipment, specifically the main scoreboards.
