Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2028 candidacy

Overview

The city of Pozzuoli has relaunched its bid to become the Italian Capital of Contemporary Art for 2028. This renewed candidacy follows a period of silence after a seismic event on July 31. Paolo Lubrano, director of the ‘City of Creative Fragilities’ project, noted that the initiative has been redefined to support the moral and civil reconstruction of the community through culture.

Following this relaunch, the Ministry of Culture announced that Pozzuoli is one of four finalists for the title, alongside Capri, Padova, and an aggregation of Civita di Bagnoregio and Bolsena. Pozzuoli’s specific vision is titled ‘La città delle fragilità creative’.

The final selection will involve public hearings in Rome on October 8, with the winner to be announced by October 30. The successful candidate will receive a 1 million euro contribution to fund their cultural programs and interventions.
