Italian Carabinieri anti‑crime operations

In early July 2026, police in the Frosinone area reported four fraud attempts in which perpetrators impersonated Carabinieri to deceive elderly residents. The scams involved door‑knocking and phone calls claiming an imminent police search, prompting victims to alert emergency services. Investigators from the Carabinieri’s Pontecorvo operational centre intervened, but no arrests were made and the suspects remain at large.

Later in July, Carabinieri units in Udine disrupted a vehicle‑theft ring that had stolen cars, vans, and even a fire‑brigade vehicle from remote parking sites between February and May 2026. Coordinated investigations across Udine province and the nearby Veneto coast led to the arrest of five alleged gang members, who were placed in preventive custody.

On 25 July 2026, Carabinieri together with local police reported a series of arrests in several municipalities. In San Gennaro Vesuviano a 39‑year‑old Moroccan was detained for attempting to break a tobacco kiosk cash box. In Udine the same car‑theft ring previously identified was fully dismantled, confirming the earlier operation. Additional arrests included a Brescia landlord charged with facilitating illegal immigration, a 30‑year‑old Italian impersonating a carabiniere who robbed an elderly woman in Vicenza, and suspects in Cremona, Torre del Greco and Naples linked to vehicle theft, aggravated robbery and house‑arrest violations. All detainees face charges ranging from attempted theft and aggravated robbery to illegal residency facilitation.
