Italian Coast Guard summer safety operations

The Italian Coast Guard has concluded its ‘Mare e Laghi Sicuri 2026’ national safety and enforcement campaign, which operated throughout the summer season across various maritime districts.

In the Lake Garda region, authorities reported significant activity including 244 search and rescue missions across Lake Garda, Lake Como, and Lake Maggiore. On Lake Garda specifically, officials assisted 309 people and coordinated 107 rescues. Safety enforcement included 1,795 vessel inspections, resulting in 389 administrative sanctions and the seizure of three boats. Additionally, the Guardia di Finanza conducted inspections in the Brescia province to address tax evasion and irregular labor, identifying 63 undocumented workers and 53 other labor violations.

In the Campania maritime district, the operation covered 523 kilometers of coastline and approximately 40,000 square kilometers of water. Utilizing roughly 60 nautical vessels and over 150 military personnel daily, the initiative conducted 31,000 inspections and rescued 200 people. The program focused on navigation regulation enforcement, environmental protection, and human life safety.
