Italian health policy initiatives 2026

In late July 2026, Italy’s Health Minister Orazio Schillaci highlighted two major policy pushes. On 23 July, he toured Brescia’s civil hospitals and, alongside regional officials, presented the €274 million “Future Hospital” plan. The project, funded partly by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, aims to modernise clinical, research and diagnostic capacities while embedding a One Health approach that links human, animal and environmental health.

Four days later, on 27 July, Schillaci chaired the inaugural meeting of a national committee on health and safety at work, marking the rollout of Italy’s 2026‑2030 National Strategy for Workplace Health. The strategy sets measurable goals to strengthen preventive systems and improve coordination between health and labour ministries, extending the minister’s focus on prevention from hospitals to workplaces.

Together, these actions illustrate a coordinated effort by the Italian government to modernise healthcare infrastructure and broaden preventive health measures across both clinical and occupational settings.
