Italian honey industry: festivals and national awards
Overview
The Italian honey industry continues to balance production challenges with cultural and competitive achievements. While extreme heat and drought have previously impacted apiary output, the sector maintains strong visibility through regional festivals and national recognition.
In October, several traditional festivals are highlighting local apiculture and biodiversity. The 38th Honey and Autumn Products Festival in Belforte all’Isauro, running from October 9 to 11, includes studies on pollinator protection conducted by the Università Politecnica delle Marche. Meanwhile, the 46th Ottobrata Zafferanese in Zafferana Etnea features a Honey Festival on October 11, showcasing artisanal products from Mount Etna and hosting over 230 exhibitors.
Regional celebrations extend to Châtillon, where the 23rd Honey Festival is scheduled for October 23 to 25. Organized by the Municipality of Châtillon and the Valle d'Aosta Beekeeping Consortium Association, the event aims to promote biodiversity and the transmission of technical skills to new beekeepers, alongside the 32nd Valle d'Aosta regional honey competition.
On the national stage, Apicoltura Danilov of Calosso received the ‘Una Goccia d’Oro’ award at the 46th ‘Grandi Mieli d’Italia – Premio Giulio Piana’ competition in Castel San Pietro Terme. Beekeeper Toshe Davilov was honored for his Millefiori honey, following a previous award for acacia honey in 2025, marking a continued trend of high-quality seasonal production.
