Italian and San Marinese social inclusion initiatives
Overview
Italian community organizations and local groups continue to launch various solidarity initiatives to support vulnerable populations, specifically focusing on the elderly, people with disabilities, and social inclusion. In the Delta Ferrarese region, the inclusive restaurant Casa e Bottega is expanding its operations to include Saturday openings to provide practical training for young people. In Ventasso, the Cooperativa di comunità Valle dei Cavalieri has launched a social center for residents over 65 to combat isolation. Accessibility efforts continue in Cassino, where the Rotary Club donated a wheelchair to the Museo Historiale, and in Varese, where the Biblioteca Civica is transforming into a social hub with extended hours. Recent developments emphasize active empowerment and professional autonomy. The “Il nostro Ciak” project, funded by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies, recently concluded a national workshop in Monopoli. Over 18 months, the initiative helped 425 participants, including 238 people with disabilities and 187 people in economic distress, develop skills through art and communication. In Carpi, the social cooperative “Casa e Pasta,” inaugurated by the association USHAC, focuses on fresh pasta production to foster independence for young cooperators aged 21 to 22. New initiatives have expanded into Sicily and San Marino. In Sicily, social cooperatives ConSenso and Borgo Blu launched “Vùci,” a project aimed at professional inclusion and talent recognition for people with disabilities. In San Marino, the “I Pianeti” center was inaugurated in Borgo Maggiore to provide psychological assistance and orientation for families and caregivers of individuals with disabilities. Recent mobility support has also emerged in Puglia. In Avetrana, BCC Avetrana donated a minibus to Caritas to bolster its “Pronto Aiuto” service for families in difficult circumstances.
