Italian medical device sector development and funding

Confindustria Dispositivi Medici has focused on addressing structural needs within the Italian medical device and healthcare sectors. Initially, the organization called for permanent structural funding to sustain home care services following the conclusion of the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) funding cycle. This request follows reports that home care targets were exceeded in 2025, with 1,625,785 people receiving services. Filippo Lintas, President of the Home&Digital Care association, noted that transitioning from extraordinary resources to stable funding is essential to ensure continuity and reduce regional disparities.

Subsequently, the organization expanded its efforts toward workforce development by signing a three-year framework agreement with nine ITS Academy foundations. This pact aims to bridge the skills gap in the medical device sector across several regions, including Piedmont, Lombardy, and Sicily. The initiative focuses on aligning educational curricula with industry needs regarding digital and ecological transitions through internships, apprenticeships, and the creation of a joint observatory to monitor workforce requirements.
