Italian nightlife and security regulations

Overview

Italian cities Pisa and Naples are introducing new regulations to manage nightlife, referred to as ‘movida’, to balance economic activity with urban security and residents’ rights.

In Naples, Mayor Gaetano Manfredi signed an ordinance effective from October 16 to November 16, 2026. The measures target specific areas, including the historic center and Vomero, prohibiting the sale and takeaway of alcoholic beverages between midnight and 6:00 AM. Business closing times are also restricted, with mandatory closures by 1:00 AM on weekdays and 2:00 AM on Fridays. Violations may lead to fines or the revocation of business licenses.

In Pisa, Prefect Maria Luisa D’Alessandro and local business associations signed a “Patto per la Movida Sicura” (Safe Nightlife Pact). This agreement focuses on cooperation between law enforcement and commercial operators to combat illegal activities and protect minors while supporting the local economy. A monitoring committee will evaluate the results of this protocol every six months.
