Italian provinces sportivity rankings 2026

The 2026 Sportività Index compiled by Il Sole 24 Ore and analysed by regional sport bodies ranked Italian provinces on a range of criteria, from infrastructure to participation. In late July, Teramo province was highlighted as the top‑performing area in Abruzzo, placing 37th nationally but leading the region with 307 points, strong outdoor‑sports participation and a high number of amateur football clubs. CONI Abruzzo’s president praised the results and pledged continued investment.

Two days later, the index showed Macerata province as the highest‑ranking province in the Marche region, sitting 19th out of 107 provinces. The province excelled in paralympic sports (third nationally) and volleyball, benefitting from recent €14 million facility investments noted by the provincial sports assessor. Both snapshots illustrate how the index spotlights regional strengths and ongoing public funding to boost sport participation across Italy.
