Italian Red Cross community and volunteer initiatives

The Italian Red Cross has implemented various initiatives to support local communities and expand its volunteer base across different regions.

In the Bolognese Apennines, the Bologna Committee launched a digital newsletter titled ‘Giornalino delle Sedi CRI della Montagna – Estate 2026’ to highlight the civil protection and solidarity work performed by mountain branches, such as the Vergato location. This initiative received endorsement from the Municipality of Vergato to better connect citizens with local volunteer activities.

In the Lombardy region, the organization is focusing on recruitment and education through new training courses. In Lomazzo, the local committee is hosting introductory sessions for individuals aged 14 and older—including students, workers, and retirees—to prepare them for roles in emergency services, social transport for the elderly and children, and other social services. Participants who pass the required exam will receive an official certificate. Similarly, the Varese Committee in Tradate is organizing an information evening for a free training program starting October 1, emphasizing teamwork and community service.

In the Liguria region, specifically the Ventimiglia area, the organization is restarting its ‘Oasi della Salute’ (Oases of Health) project. This initiative provides free primary health screenings to inland villages, such as Castelvittorio and Isolabona, to improve accessibility for populations located far from major medical centers. Volunteers will conduct assessments for blood pressure, blood glucose, oxygen saturation, heart rate, and cardiovascular health.
