Italian summer festival restrictions

In late July, Sulmona’s mayor approved a municipal ordinance that limited night music to Saturdays and specific events, allowing performances only until 01:00, and banned the sale or serving of drinks in glass containers between 22:00 and 05:00. The measure was intended to balance residents’ quiet with tourist activity through the busy summer period.

A week later, other Italian towns introduced similar event‑specific rules. In Termoli, the Port Authority restricted vehicle access, pedestrian movement and maritime activity around the San Basso fireworks site, creating safety exclusion zones on land and sea. In Grottammare, the mayor temporarily lifted the glass‑container ban for one evening after the first night of the Diffusioni Festival was cancelled, but reinstated the restriction for the following nights, requiring drinks to be served in paper or plastic cups and prohibiting public consumption of glass or metal containers outside authorized venues. Together, these actions illustrate a broader trend of local authorities tightening safety, noise, and glass‑bottle regulations for summer festivals across Italy.
