Italian track cycling events at San Francesco al Campo

Entities: Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games · Mattia Predomo · Velodromo Francone · Italian National Track Cycling Championships · Matteo Bianchi

Overview

In late July 2026 the Velodromo Francone in San Francesco al Campo hosted two successive cycling meets. On 22 July the venue staged the "Trofeo Cumino Parking", serving as the Piedmont regional track‑cycling championship. The competition featured junior, youth and women’s categories across a range of races – individual pursuit, keirin, omnium and sprint among others – and produced regional title holders such as Filippo Gallo, Gregorio Acquaviva, Mirko Mazzoni and Nicole Bracco.

A few days later, on 27 July, the same velodrome was the setting for the Italian National Track Cycling Championships. South‑Tyrolean riders Matteo Bianchi and Mattia Predomo won the elite men’s team sprint in 36.955 seconds, comfortably ahead of the runners‑up. The event also marked the 30th anniversary of the venue, which opened in 1996 and now runs a mixed program of elite and junior races. Bianchi and Predomo said their aim is to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and they are already preparing for the World Championships in Shanghai in October.
