Italy expands digital public service assistance
Overview
Italian authorities are broadening digital assistance for citizens. In August 2026, the Union of the Municipalities of Bassa Romagna and the town of Tortoreto extended their “Punto Digitale Facile” services, offering free, in‑person help with online public‑administration tools such as SPID, electronic identity cards, health records and the IO app.
The Bassa Romagna extension, implemented by the non‑profit Villaggio Globale, will run through December 2028. In Tortoreto, the service extension is a result of cooperation between the Abruzzo Region, Abruzzo Progetti S.p.A. and the Department for Digital Transformation. Local official Giorgio Ripani noted high demand, with hundreds of citizens receiving help with both public services and private digital tools like email, social networks, and distance learning.
Around the same period, the national pension institute INPS launched online services for the “Progetto di vita” (Life Project) disability pathway, a central component of disability reform under legislative decree 62/2024. Integrated into the SISDA health‑disability‑elderly information system, these tools allow applicants or representatives to submit documentation, such as disability certificates and WHODAS questionnaires, to local social services. This enables a multidimensional analysis of an individual’s family context and autonomy to create tailored support strategies. Following pilot phases in 2025, these services were expanded in March 2026 to cover major cities and several provinces in Abruzzo, further illustrating Italy's push to digitise public services at both local and national levels.
