Italy public sale of historic properties

In late July 2026 the Italian State Property Agency (Agenzia del Demanio) opened a public tender for 20 historic buildings spread across ten regions, offering long‑term valorizzazione contracts, temporary use licences and special concessions for third‑sector entities. The tender set deadlines for bids in October and December 2026.

A few days later, local authorities launched complementary initiatives. The municipality of Bitonto announced a "1‑euro houses" programme to transfer abandoned historic‑centre buildings to the city for a symbolic price, with applications open until July 2027. Meanwhile, the Piave reclamation consortium scheduled an auction of a property in Treviso for August 2026. Both actions illustrate a broader push by national and municipal bodies in Italy to transfer, sell or lease underused historic and abandoned real‑estate assets in order to revitalise urban areas and promote tourism and investment.
