Italy road infrastructure projects under Salvini

In July 2026, Italy’s Vice‑President and Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini visited the A4‑Valtrompia motorway link construction site near Brescia, where officials reported that most tunnel diaphragms were installed, diversions were completed and the new Mella bridge had been tested, indicating the project was progressing rapidly.

A few weeks later, in early August, Salvini’s ministry announced the continuation of the 2025 Road Investment Fund, allocating more than €1 million to nine communes in the Marche region and funding for seven towns in Benevento. The money is intended for road repairs, pothole fixing, subsidence mitigation and overall safety improvements, with a further €10 million call planned for 2026 to reach additional small municipalities.

On 1 August 2026, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport released additional funding for the “Fondo investimenti stradali nei piccoli Comuni”. The allocations include about €2.9 million for 20 towns in Calabria, €480 000 for four communes in Umbria, €1.148 million for nine communes in Marche, and over €1.1 million for nine projects in Liguria (Mendatica, Rocchetta Nervina, Bajardo). Resources were also earmarked for seven municipalities in the province of Benevento. The measures aim to repair potholes, reinforce road structures and accelerate local construction, addressing the isolation of small towns with populations under 5,000.
