Izmir Metropolitan Municipality urban development projects
Overview
The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is managing several urban development and infrastructure initiatives across different districts.
In the Konak district, the municipality has demolished 26 high-risk buildings to facilitate the Buca Onat Tunnel project. This project aims to reduce travel time between Buca and Bornova. Technical inspections identified 108 structures posing risks to life and property, with the municipality reaching agreements with owners for 55 of those buildings. Ongoing monitoring of ground movements and structural shifts is being conducted by technical teams.
In Karabağlar, the Uzundere Urban Transformation and Development Project is progressing through its third and fourth stages. These stages involve the construction of 1,902 housing units. The third stage is expected to be completed by the end of 2027, while the fourth stage is targeted for completion by 2028. The project is being implemented by the municipal subsidiary IZBETON AŞ.
