Jagex technical issues with RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Overview

Following the launch of RuneScape: Dragonwilds, developer Jagex has been addressing various technical and visual challenges. Initially, the studio acknowledged that the Nintendo Switch 2 version lacked visual fidelity because developers had “prioritized framerate stability over resolution and visual fidelity.” Jagex committed to a series of updates to resolve issues such as blurriness caused by low output resolution.

As the situation progressed, reports emerged regarding save corruption affecting approximately 1,000 players on PC and consoles. This corruption reportedly occurs during disconnections, the use of sleep mode, or character appearance edits. To mitigate this, Jagex is implementing a recovery system to provide affected players with new characters equipped with Tier 4 gear and pre-leveled skills to preserve progression.

Regarding visual improvements on the Nintendo Switch 2, Jagex announced a long-term plan that includes transitioning from Unreal Engine 5.6 to 5.8 to utilize Lumen Lite for better lighting optimization. The studio also noted recent reports of inventory and progress synchronization issues on the Switch following a patch.
