Jakarta boarding house murder case

In late July 2026, police in West Jakarta responded to a disturbance at a boarding house on Jalan Makaliwe in the Grogol Petamburan district. Officers found a pool of blood and the body of a 52‑year‑old woman (identified only as “M”) with a fatal head wound. Investigators quickly collected evidence, including a hammer, phones and a motorcycle, and conducted forensic examinations.

Within hours, detectives from the Metro Jakarta Police identified a male suspect, “E,” and located him in Cilandak, South Jakarta. He was apprehended after resisting arrest. Subsequent reporting on 31 July detailed that E, a 28‑year‑old man, had attacked M with a hammer after a dispute triggered by WhatsApp messages, striking her four times in the head. He has been detained and charged under Indonesia’s 2023 murder law, which carries a maximum 15‑year sentence. The case remains under active investigation, with authorities continuing to interview witnesses and examine the scene.
