Jamaica 65th independence celebrations

Jamaica is preparing a landmark set of events to mark its 65th year of independence. Officials announced that 2026 will be the final year the national celebrations are held at the National Stadium before its redevelopment, with a Grand Gala slated for August 6 featuring fireworks, a 1,000‑drone display and a police motorcycle parade. The program also includes a National Thanksgiving Service, the 10th anniversary of Kingston’s UNESCO Creative City of Music designation, the 50th anniversary of women serving in the Jamaica Defence Force, the 60th Jamaica Festival Song Competition, and a Reggae Icons award ceremony.

Alongside the official programme, a series of music festivals and cultural parties are scheduled to coincide with the holiday period. The Best Weekend Ever series returns for its fifth edition (August 6‑10 2025) across Ocho Rios, offering food‑inclusive events such as the Rise and Toast brunch and the I Love Soca Cooler Festival featuring local artists. The Sun Up sunrise party will be held on July 31 2026 at Folly Lighthouse in Port Antonio, showcasing live music, cuisine and cultural displays. These festivals aim to attract both local and overseas visitors, underscoring Jamaica’s tourism appeal during the independence weekend.

Together, the official celebrations and the accompanying music festivals illustrate a coordinated effort to highlight Jamaica’s cultural heritage, artistic talent and tourism potential as the nation marks a historic milestone.
