Japanese lemon beverage initiatives

In mid‑July 2026 a Japanese craft brewery introduced LEMON LAGER, a 4.5% lemon‑flavoured lager made from surplus regional lemons supplied by JA Anzu in Chiba. The product, developed with a regional development organization and using American aroma hops, was marketed as a sustainable use of otherwise wasted fruit and sold online and in specialty stores.

By the end of July, the focus shifted to the on‑premise sector. Two izakaya chains launched limited‑time promotions featuring lemon‑flavoured drinks. Monte Rosa Co. offered its "Kobirashi Sakaba" lemon sour at tiered low prices across 36 outlets, while Isomaru Suisan Co. sold a "1‑chome Highball" and lemon sour for a flat 219 yen throughout August. Both campaigns aimed to draw customers during the summer and early autumn by heavily discounting lemon‑based beverages.
