Japanese parks introduce summer cooling measures

In July 2026, Wood Design Park Noma on Japan’s Chita Peninsula upgraded its facilities to combat heat‑stroke, adding a mist system covering the beachfront and tent areas, large fans, a dedicated spot‑cooler lounge, and rentable portable coolers. The park also launched three low‑price frozen fruit‑pulp drinks to keep visitors comfortable during seaside BBQs.

Within weeks, other Japanese parks adopted comparable heat‑mitigation programmes. Akita Prefectural Central Park opened new zones—including a dog run and expansive grassy lawn—receiving positive visitor feedback. In Machida, Tokyo, Yakushiike Park organized a free “Cooling Campaign” (15 August–2 September) in partnership with football club FC Machida Zelvia, featuring a stamp‑rally, water‑gun games, mist installations, and giveaways. These coordinated actions show a growing emphasis on providing safe, refreshing outdoor experiences amid increasingly intense summer temperatures.
