Japanese railway themed tourism events
Overview
In September 2026, several Japanese railway companies launched various themed community and travel events aimed at regional revitalization and tourism.
Initial announcements included a quiz rally on the Tokyo Sakura Tram (Toden Arakawa Line) spanning multiple wards in Tokyo, and a co-hosted mystery-solving competition between Keio Corporation and Odakyu Electric Railway titled ‘Keio vs. Odakyu Line Love Battle’. The latter event involved 44 stations and offered prizes such as hotel stays and department store vouchers.
Following these announcements, JR East and the creative team KAGENAZO launched the ‘Otona no Kyujitsu Club no Nazotobi’ project. This initiative included a free web-based mystery game and a location-based mystery tour in the Hiraizumi area of Iwate Prefecture, where participants use smartphones to navigate World Heritage sites.
