Japanese retail service and specialty expansion

Overview

Japanese retailers are expanding their service offerings through specialized stores and community-focused initiatives.

In early September, retailers announced expansions in pet specialty services. Aeon Pet scheduled the opening of a new store in Yamaguchi Prefecture featuring specialized sections for cat products and pet apparel. Additionally, Joyful Honda planned to launch a standalone pet specialty store in Tokyo by December 2026, which will utilize a ‘CLOVER STEP’ system to encourage responsible pet ownership and prevent impulsive purchases.

By late September, the focus of retail expansion shifted toward family and childcare support. The Aeon Group launched its first ‘Childcare Fair ~Tomoiiku~’ across approximately 570 stores in collaboration with multiple companies. Other commercial developments included the expansion of the ‘Dream market’ outlet brand to Kyushu, family-oriented campaigns from Bandai Namco Experience, and the opening of new electronics and capsule toy specialty stores within Aeon shopping centers.
