Japanese RPG releases on modern hardware

Overview

Square Enix and Nihon Falcom have announced the release of several classic RPG titles on modern hardware. Square Enix released the Classic HD version of Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon in the West, a title that had been exclusive to Japan for over thirty years. Simultaneously, Nihon Falcom and NIS America announced that The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure would be brought to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 to utilize modern hardware for improved visuals.

Following these announcements, Square Enix confirmed that Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 23. This version is expected to feature a Performance Mode supporting 1080p at 60 fps and a Quality Mode offering up to 1440p resolution at 30 fps. However, no upgrade package will be provided for players transitioning from the original Nintendo Switch version.
