Japanese seasonal retail and food promotions

Japanese retailers and companies continue to introduce various seasonal food products, promotions, and consumer goods.

In the food and beverage sector, McDonald's Japan is set to introduce the ‘Hokkaido Potato Pepper Tsukimi’ burger on September 24 to mark the 35th anniversary of its Tsukimi series. The launch will be supported by television commercials featuring actor Shingo Katori. This follows existing offerings such as the standard Tsukimi Burger and the ‘Aburi Sukiyaki-style Tsukimi’.

Convenience stores are also preparing for upcoming holidays. FamilyMart has opened reservations for its 2026 Christmas cake lineup, which includes collaborations with chocolate brands Pierre Marcolini, Pierre Hermé, and Theo. Meanwhile, Lawson has begun taking reservations for its ‘MOTTAINAI Osechi’, an upcycled New Year's meal created from surplus ingredients.

Other ongoing seasonal activities include Komeda's Coffee’s collaboration with Kirin's ‘Gogo no Kocha’ brand to produce a milk tea frappe with milk pudding, a product that has experienced high demand and early sell-outs. Additional retail updates include seasonal snack releases from Happy Turn and official merchandise for EXPO 2025. Previous seasonal promotions included OK Supermarket discounts on frozen items, Marugen Ramen’s mandarin orange parfait, and autumn-themed beauty products from uka.
