Japanese television drama premieres
Overview
New Japanese television dramas are scheduled for release in October. One upcoming production is ‘Merry Berry Love’, a romantic comedy co-produced by Nippon TV and CJ ENM. The series stars Ji Chang-wook as Lee Yu-bin, a perfectionist South Korean spatial planner who loses his career and wealth, and Mio Imada as Karin Shirahama, a Japanese woman dedicated to strawberry farming on the island of Charoshima.
Lead actor Ji Chang-wook has noted that despite language barriers, he and Imada shared a ‘natural sense of humor and connection’ on set. The drama, which premiered on October 7 via Nippon TV and Disney+, follows Yu-bin’s transition from an urban professional to a struggling farmhand.
Following the premiere, the narrative has focused on misunderstandings between the leads. While Karin initially blamed Yu-bin for damage to her strawberry field, CCTV footage revealed the destruction was caused by local schoolchildren. Despite this resolution, further misunderstandings have led Yu-bin to consider returning to Korea. Meanwhile, Karin has faced physical exhaustion while attempting to restore her farm alone, eventually receiving help from her friends, Kunam and Mari.
Another October release is the TV Tokyo drama ‘How to Make a Beloved Boyfriend’, based on a manga by Zakuzaku. The series features a character named Sakura who receives romantic guidance from a ‘love fairy’ to improve her relationship prospects.
