JCB expansion in manufacturing and hydrogen technology

Overview

JCB is expanding its market presence through distribution partnerships and significant manufacturing investments. In September 2026, the German specialist Louis Scheuch GmbH announced it would add JCB to its portfolio to offer products like excavators and telescopic handlers to the construction and municipal sectors.

Following a period of strong financial performance in 2025, which saw turnover reach £5.7 billion, the company announced its first leadership change in over 50 years, with George Bamford becoming Co-Chairman alongside Lord Bamford. To support global growth, JCB is investing £100 million to transform its Staffordshire headquarters in the UK and is opening a new facility in San Antonio, Texas, which is expected to create 1,500 jobs over five years.

Technological innovation remains a core focus, particularly regarding hydrogen-powered machinery as a diesel alternative. Having developed more than 200 variations of its hydrogen engine technology, JCB has released a hydrogen-fuelled backhoe loader and a 60kVA generator. The company plans to introduce hydrogen-powered Loadall telescopic handlers and aims to develop a hydrogen tractor by the early 2030s. To demonstrate its Hydromax engine technology, JCB set a land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats, where a hydrogen internal combustion vehicle reached nearly 654 kilometres per hour.
