Overview
Jeju Province and the South Korean Ministry of the Interior and Safety have announced measures to resume victim registration and extend compensation deadlines related to the Jeju 4·3 Incident. Following an amendment to the enforcement decree of the Special Act on the Investigation of the Jeju 4·3 Incident and the Restoration of Honor of Victims, a new six-month registration period for victims and bereaved families is scheduled to take place from February 1, 2027, to July 31, 2027.
To support those who missed previous windows, several administrative deadlines have been extended. The deadline for applying for victim compensation has been moved to December 31, 2029. Additionally, the period for correcting family relationship registers and determining common-law or adoptive relationships has been extended to August 31, 2028.
