Journalism training for Global South relations

Overview

Journalism training initiatives have been implemented to shape and improve reporting on China’s international relations, particularly regarding the Global South.

In September 2026, China launched a four-month training program in Beijing for approximately 100 journalists from 100 different countries. Organized by the China Public Diplomacy Association and the China International Press Communication Centre, the program encouraged participants to use objective reporting to “amplify the narrative of South-South cooperation” and present a “multidimensional picture” of China.

In a separate initiative in March 2026, a workshop was held in Dakar for journalists from seven Francophone countries. Organized by E-jicom and the Wits Centre for Journalism, this program aimed to help media professionals provide “independent, critical analysis” of the economic and geopolitical dynamics between China and Africa, seeking to move beyond foreign narratives and address gaps in local press coverage regarding Chinese investments.
