Journalist training initiatives in Africa

Overview

Journalists in West and Central Africa have participated in specialized training programs focused on modern media challenges.

In Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, the NGO ACRA conducted a workshop for approximately 30 journalists covering fact-checking, journalistic ethics, disinformation detection, and the management of AI-generated content. Participants aimed to implement these lessons within their newsrooms to improve accuracy and caution in online sharing.

In Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Journaliste en Danger (JED), with support from Reporters Without Borders, held a session for about 30 journalists, including those displaced by war. This training emphasized physical, digital, and psychosocial security, covering threat mapping, data protection, and cyberbullying prevention. The program also addressed the use of artificial intelligence as a tool for assistance, with participants receiving certificates to act as trainers for other media professionals.
