Dame Julie Andrews announced her retirement from on-screen acting at age 90, stating she feels she is “past” appearing on camera. While declining a return to ‘The Princess Diaries’ franchise, she indicated she would continue professional work through voiceover, podcasts, and writing. Disney+ also announced a career documentary scheduled for 2027.

Following her retirement from physical film roles, Andrews set a new record as the oldest woman to win a Primetime Emmy. At age 90, she won the award for Best Character Voice-Over Performance for her role as Lady Whistledown in ‘Bridgerton’, surpassing the previous record held by Betty White and Beulah Bondi.

Andrews extended this record at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys, securing her second consecutive award for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance for her work on ‘Bridgerton’. Because she was not in attendance, Eric Bauza accepted the trophy on her behalf. This second consecutive win further solidifies her status as the oldest woman to win a Primetime Emmy, surpassing the age of 88 previously held by White and Bondi.
