Jysk retail expansion in the Balkans

Overview

Danish home furnishing retailer Jysk has reached an agreement to transition from a franchise model to direct ownership in Kosovo, Albania, and North Macedonia. The company will take over 25 franchise locations and their employees from current partner Fatmir Zymberi, consisting of twelve stores in Kosovo, seven in North Macedonia, and six in Albania.

CEO Rami Jensen stated that the move is intended to integrate these markets into the company’s own organization to allow for direct investment in future expansion, store facilities, and personnel. The company noted significant potential for brand development in these three countries. Jysk has maintained a presence in Kosovo since 2004, North Macedonia since 2008, and Albania since 2015 through the existing partnership.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to be completed by January 1, 2027, with business operations continuing unchanged until that time.
