Kakamega police officer defilement case

Overview

Wycliffe Kwendo, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Lumakanda Police Station in Kakamega County, was arrested following allegations of defiling a minor. Reports indicate that Kwendo allegedly lured the girl’s parents away from their home under the guise of an imminent security operation, only for the parents to return and find him inside their house.

During the incident, Kwendo reportedly threatened the mother with a firearm to prevent her from collecting evidence and attempted to offer KSh20,000 to settle the matter privately. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations launched a formal investigation, and the victim was taken for medical examination.

By September 30, Kwendo appeared in court facing charges of defilement under the Sexual Offences Act, alongside alternative charges of committing an indecent act with a child and abuse of a position of authority. Prosecutors opposed bail due to the seriousness of the allegations, and the court remanded him in custody.
