Karlovac police and citizen dispute over heatwave conditions
Overview
A dispute emerged in Karlovac, Croatia, following a confrontation at the local Police Administration during a heatwave. Eric Mišić, 27, filmed a video showing citizens, including children and the elderly, waiting outside in temperatures near 40°C. Mišić claimed that staff forced people to wait outdoors despite the interior being cool, an action he took after his mother felt unwell due to the heat.
The Karlovac Police Administration issued a statement calling Mišić’s claims “inaccurate and unfounded,” asserting that a malfunctioning cooling system made the interior “unbearable” and stifling, which led citizens to choose to wait outside.
Following the incident, Mišić faced misdemeanor charges for allegedly disturbing public order and peace. In a follow-up video, Mišić disputed the police account regarding the building's climate, maintaining that the interior was cooler than the outside. He has called for the release of surveillance footage to verify his claims and noted that while his criticism is directed at the handling of the situation, the officers who arrived during the intervention were professional.
