Karnataka political and administrative developments

Overview

Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has been engaged in multiple administrative and political efforts. Initially, the Chief Minister announced plans to lead an all-party delegation to the Union Government to address unresolved issues facing sugarcane farmers, emphasizing that the matter should not be politicized.

Following this, a separate incident occurred at the Mysuru Palace during the Nandidhwaja Puja on October 21, where police officials allegedly prevented several state ministers from entering the premises. The ministers reportedly denied entry included Shivaraj Tangadagi, P.M. Narendra Swamy, K.S. Basavanthappa, and H.C. Balakrishna. While video footage showed officers blocking some ministers, Shivakumar stated he personally intervened to facilitate their entry.

The Chief Minister characterized the conduct of the officials as “extremely serious,” “arrogant,” and “condemnable,” subsequently ordering an inquiry led by Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh to identify those responsible. While the Deputy Chief Minister suggested the police were merely enforcing security protocols and cautioned against attributing a caste angle to the event, opposition leaders from the BJP accused the government of hypocrisy, alleging the restrictions specifically targeted Dalit ministers and calling the government’s social justice claims “hollow.”
