Karnataka political tensions over land and governance

In Karnataka, political tensions have escalated regarding land acquisition and farmer compensation. JD(S) leaders have criticized the administration, accusing the government of attempting to seize land and rejecting recent compensation proposals. This led to protests, including a march near the Kaniminike toll plaza and planned demonstrations in Bengaluru.

In response to these and other political challenges, Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has emphasized the need for citizen-friendly governance and efficient service delivery. Addressing allegations from Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy concerning the KPSC recruitment scam, Shivakumar stated he would not interfere in investigations.

To address land-related concerns, the Chief Minister discussed a proposed ‘Land Guarantee’ scheme intended to support individuals who have provided land or property to the government. Additionally, the administration indicated plans to consult with MLAs regarding farmer-related issues and the K. Kasturirangan report on the Western Ghats.
