Overview

In early July, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris ordered schools in bandit‑affected areas to remain closed until security conditions improved, announcing additional military and police deployments, logistical support and a Joint Security Fund funded by the northern states. Later that month the government rejected media reports that it had abandoned vulnerable communities, labeling the claims politically motivated and reaffirming the governor’s active engagement with security agencies.

On 25 July the press office reiterated the denial, stressing that operational confidentiality does not equate to inactivity and urging politicians not to exploit the crisis.

Two days later, Governor Idris convened a high‑level security summit at the state Government House, bringing together senior army, police, intelligence, civil defence and drug enforcement officials, all 21 local‑government chairmen and state executives. Participants reviewed ongoing operations, intelligence sharing and joint strategies to curb banditry, kidnappings and other crimes, with the governor emphasizing continued collaboration to restore confidence among residents.
