Kenya DCI criminal investigations and arrests
Overview
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya has conducted several operations targeting cybercrime, theft, and forgery.
In one investigation, authorities are searching for Albert Komen Kipkechem, also known as Jonathan Kiptum Barmasai, who failed to appear in court regarding cybercrime charges. Komen is suspected of using remote access software to facilitate fraudulent activities that caused losses exceeding Sh52 million for a bank, a SACCO, and a payment service provider in June 2025. Previous searches of his residence yielded electronic gadgets, cash, and fraudulent identity documents.
In separate incidents, the DCI arrested two suspects in Nairobi for the theft of an HP laptop and an iPad from the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) premises. Additionally, in Meru County, Henry Kinyua Mbiti was arrested for allegedly posing as a court official to present forged court orders, land title certificates, and identity cards to litigants at the Maua Law Courts and the Meru High Court.
