Kenya digital infrastructure and AI development

Kenya is expanding its digital infrastructure and technological capabilities through various training initiatives and international partnerships. Early efforts focused on digital literacy and urban management, including a program in Keiyo South where 330 young people utilized the solar-powered Huawei DigiTruck to gain hands-on skills. This supports the National Digital Superhighway and explores smart-city models involving interconnected sensors and artificial intelligence for municipal response.

Building on these foundations, the Kenyan government has entered strategic agreements to advance artificial intelligence and public administration. Through a partnership with Intel Corporation, the ‘AI for Citizens’ initiative aims to promote AI literacy via the public library network. Furthermore, a memorandum of understanding with the Hoover Institution at Stanford University seeks to integrate data and AI into governance, specifically for monitoring El Niño events, assessing digital trade readiness, and overseeing public-private partnerships to support Kenya Vision 2030.
